Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body

29. September 2022gmchem.eu

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It is the main component of bones, skin, ligaments and tendons among other structures, so it is imperative that you know the importance of collagen in our body. There are different types of collagen and the most common are Type I, II and III. The first type is mainly found in teeth, bones, skin and tendons. Type II provides joint support and is found in cartilage. Type III is found in muscles, blood vessels, and various organs.

As we age, our existing collagen breaks down and our bodies produce less. Lifestyle factors such as smoking, overexposure to the sun and other forms of oxidative stress can also damage collagen production. It is estimated that by the age of 40, the body produces half as much collagen as it does in adolescence. This reduction in production levels causes, among other things, loss of skin elasticity and suppleness, joint and muscle pain, osteoporosis, deterioration of eyesight, circulatory disorders, problems with teeth and gums, etc., in other words, the deterioration that is typical of old age. As a result, over the years, many people have been turning to collagen supplements, and collagen-rich supplements have indeed become popular for anti-aging effects in humans.

Collagen: the function and why collagen is important

The name collagen comes from the Greek Kólla, meaning “glue” and the suffix -gen, indicating “producing” This protein provides structural support to the extracellular space of connective tissues. It is the perfect matrix for skin, hair, nails, tendons, bones and ligaments.

Collagen molecules are packed together to form long and thin fibers. They act as supporting structures and anchor cells to each other, providing strength and flexibility to skin, tendons, ligaments and bones, among other structures.

The importance of collagen in the human body

Collagen, as mentioned above, is the most abundant protein in the body. It plays a large role in providing structure to the body’s tissues, toughness, stiffness and texture, and when intermingled with elastic fibers, it gives strength and flexibility.

When collagen in the skin begins to break down and its levels in the body drop, you may notice wrinkles, stiffened tendons and ligaments, weaker muscles, joint pain and even gastrointestinal problems. Collagen is vital to the health of every system in our body.

Here at GM Chem, we’ll tell you the importance of collagen and why it’s essential to use collagen-rich supplements:

Joint and tendon

240 million people worldwide suffer from joint problems. Some of the most common joint problems include sensitive and stiff joints. As a supplement, collagen can help improve joint and tendon health. Age and pressure from everyday activities are beginning to take a toll on cartilage. As a result, users of collagen supplements experience better mobility and less joint pain.

Skin, hair and nails

A collagen purpose can help improve hair shine, provide intense hydration and improve volume. This ingredient also plays a role in maintaining healthy skin and nails, thanks to its amino acids it works with other biomolecules such as hyaluronic acid to promote skin regeneration, hydration and support. Therefore, it is essential for the health of the dermis.

Bones

Did you know that bones alone make up approximately 35% of collagen? Over the years, our bodies lose collagen as we age and consequently bone mass is affected. In some cases, this deterioration can lead to diseases such as osteoporosis (low bone density). Therefore, some studies claim that taking collagen-rich supplements helps reduce or inhibit bone breakdown and helps prevent diseases such as osteoporosis.

GM Chem offers a wide range of collagens – fish, chicken, beef, pork, eggshell wall collagen and 100% vegetable collagen made by fermentation from corn starch
